Education & Culture

At OUT Adventures, we pride ourselves on fostering an environment in which our clients are provided with authentic local experiences and thought-provoking conversation. Our new People to People Tour in Cuba mixes the best of Cuban Culture with an educational, LGBT component that will open your eyes to this island nation. For more information, please contact an Adventure Specialist toll-free within North America at 1-866-360-1152.

The LGBT Factor

Cubans were not able to choose where they lived (legally) until recently, so there was never a gay "ghetto" per se. Now that those restrictions are easing, the gay scene in larger cities like Havana is blossoming. We've also been privy to debates that see a correlation between Castro's repression of religion, and the open-minded attitude towards the LGBT community today.

The Best Time to Visit

Weather patterns in Cuba are similar to those of South Florida. There's potential for hurricanes between August and October, while November through March are the driest - and most pleasant - months to visit. Daily highs hover around 25C/77F, while evenings can get cool (it is technically winter, so be sure to pack a sweater).

The Shock Factor

We'll share with you the Cuba we love, but also want to manage your expectations as the level of service may not be what you're used to, choice of food may be limited, the roads aren't great, and poverty is wide-spread. Keep an open mind, and realize things may go wrong. That said, what makes Cuba amazing is this rapidly-changing island has been cut off from Western civilization for decades and is just coming into its own.

Visas

A tourist card is required for all nationalities travelling to Cuba, and can be obtained through the airline at the time of check-in. There may be exceptions, and all visas are the responsibility of the traveller.

Vaccinations

Based on the entry requirements for Cuba, there are no vaccinations needed for entry. To determine if you should take preventative measures to reduce the risk of illness, you should consult your doctor or a travel medical clinic, as OUT Adventures cannot provide vaccination recommendations.

Go! Now! We felt so much safer in Cuba than we ever imagined. For some reason, many people are concerned with travel to Cuba. False fears! The people are kind, welcoming, and genuinely love Americans. Although it is a poor country, they have so much to offer in terms of cultural, historical, and natural beauty. The country is so much bigger than we ever imagined. It doesn't feel like an island - it feels more like a large Spanish Colonial country in South America.

I've been telling all my friends about this trip! It was a wonderful experience. The tour guide was outstanding, and the food, accommodations, and sights were beyond criticism. We were also lucky that the combination of people on our trip was great; we all bonded right away, and there were no personality conflicts.

Already have mentioned this trip to friends. A few are interested and will contact this adventure group. Leader totally informative about the adventure. Any question was not a problem, if Wilmar felt unsure he followed up the following day with clarification; sometimes after calling a colleague. Money seems to be spent wisely. People to people was evident in the curriculum presented and the challenging tasks that this adventure had to operate with. I mean, death of a president of a communist country certainly asked the leaders of this group to be creative. And, they were. Thanks guys!

Well organized; excellent tour guide; trip was a good mix of staying busy and seeing/doing a lot, but not overwhelming; great group of people and many were repeat Out Adventures clients, so hopefully other trips would be good groups as well.
