Canadian 4th of July Cottage Escape

A lavishly gay 5-day retreat in Muskoka

Muskoka is the jewel of Canada’s cottage country, frequently dubbed The Hamptons of The North. It’s also where we’ll host the first OUT Adventure of our homeland, while welcoming American friends to celebrate the 4th of July. Join up to 50 guys for frivolous fun and cunning cuisine over five glorious days at a gay-owned resort. The chef is delicious (so is the food), and the resort offers an array of sleeping options to choose from. It’s also the perfect way to see what all the fuss is about if you’ve never traveled with us before.

How’s it goin, eh? Welcome to Canada – OUT Adventures’ home ice, to use a good Canuck hockey metaphor. Our morning begins with a meet and greet before we board our 3.5-hour private transport to Muskoka. After settling into your room or chalet, join us on the front lawn for a fun foray into flexibility: our first yoga session (if yoga doesn’t sound very Canadian, remember we brought you Lululemon)! Tonight we’ll indulge in a classic cottage country tradition: a barbecue on the pier, where the disarmingly named Beavers on the Wharf cocktail will be served (rest assured it neither smells like chicken nor tastes like fish).

Happy Independence Day! We may be in Canada, but we’re too nice to deprive American friends of their most revered summer holiday. Start the morning with more yoga, go trout fishing, or simply sleep in. Following a fab and filthy brunch, choose from an array of activities: water-skiing, tubing, stand up paddle boarding (SUP), frolicking on the beach, or luxuriating poolside before we converge for lunch and a beer tasting featuring Ontario’s best microbrews. Depending how hard the beer hits, you can even end the afternoon with some sexy yin yoga. Tonight’s dinner will be a Canadian/American Cookout Demo prepared by a local chef that begs to be savoured himself. The day ends with a well-lit* game of beach volleyball, a bonfire, and fireworks to celebrate. *The beach will actually be lit. If you spike your drinks as hard as the ball, so will you.

More activities abound today. Start the day with yoga on the pier. Then try hay-bail bowling, canoeing or stand-up paddle boarding after brunch. You can even splurge on a horseback ride! To keep that cottage glow alive, a local skincare line will share samples of their products, all tailor-made for men. Another yoga session in the afternoon will Zen us out for dinner al fresco, followed by a movie of the crowd’s choice (popcorn, blankets, pillows, chairs and loungers included)!

Today’s the day your lumberjack fantasies come true! After yoga and brunch, don your cut-off shorts and favourite plaid for an afternoon of burly bravado: archery, axe throwing, and even a saw-off (the worse your dating life, the greater your odds of winning). If it’s all too hairy for you, there’s also a Slip ‘N Slide relay, more yoga and a meditation session. It all wraps up with a very Canadian Cabana Party to say farewell. Throw back a couple Canuck-themed cocktails, devour delicious barbecue, and wear your lumberjack best (costume prizes will be awarded). Rather a more low-key farewell? Unwind by our bonfire on the other side of the property, far from the raucous revelry.

After one last breakfast together, we’ll make our way back to The Big Smoke (that’s what the locals call Toronto), with a stop at the world-famous Webers grill for hamburgers, before arriving mid-afternoon.
