Over the past few decades, Medellín has transformed from the world’s most dangerous city, to one of South America’s safest, most prosperous and beautiful—it is known as the City of Eternal Spring. After our big gay Colombia tour wraps up, we invite you to join this short extension and explore all the magnificent metropolis has to offer. Together we’ll learn about Medellín’s volatile past on a private city tour, discover rural life while visiting a coffee farm, and get to know the city’s LGBTQ+ leaders at a private dinner party. As part of our Flex tour line, the extension has optional activities to choose from including a guided visit to a gay bar and horseback riding. Ultimately, this short extension is the perfect way to cap off your tour of Shakira’s homeland.
Hola! Welcome to Medellín, aka The City of Eternal Spring. This verdant and mountainous city was once deemed the most notorious in Colombia. However, over the past few decades it has blossomed into a safe and innovative South American destination. As an extension to our Colombia: Bogotá to Cartagena tour, our day will begin with a short flight from Cartagena to Medellín. Upon arrival we’ll unpack in our luxe hotel where you can kick back or enjoy an afternoon exploring on your own.
We’ll gather in the hotel at 6PM for our Welcome Meeting, and later this evening we’ve been invited to a secret dinner with the city’s LGBTQ+ movers and shakers—complete with a private chef! To wrap up the day, you have the option of joining us for a few drinks at a popular bar, depending on how the group feels.
Please note: Today’s flight is not included in the cost of the tour. Please see Important Information for a special note on purchasing domestic airfare.
After a leisurely breakfast and perhaps a little hair of the dog, we’ll enjoy a private city tour. The tour begins at the civic centre before winding through Parque de las Luces, Berrio and Botero as well as the Museum of Antioquia. After a traditional lunch we’ll get to know Medellin’s journey from dystopia to utopia as we tour the infamous Comuna 13—the most dangerous barrio in what was then the most dangerous city in the world. Tonight you can join the group for an optional group dinner.
ATTN: Coffee connoisseurs! This morning we’re off to a coffee cooperative for a sip of the country’s famous arabica and robusta brews. On this fascinating excursion we’ll also have the chance to buy beans straight from the source as well as take in the gorgeous Valle de Aburrá. After an included lunch you’ll have the opportunity for an optional horseback ride through the valley. To wrap up this festive foray, we’ll enjoy a spicy Farewell Dinner and maybe even a final dip into the city’s lively gay scene.
Ciao for now! Today is the final day of our tour and we wish everyone safe travels home. From the whole Out Adventures team, muchas gracias for joining our Medellín extension.
With a little merengue in our hearts, we’ve expanded our repertoire of South American escapes into Colombia with this escape that delivers big cities, small towns, and national parks. In terms of accommodations, we’ve definitely dialed things up for this journey.
