A Gay Costa Rica Adventure Tour

Costa Rica is a magical place. Once there, you’ll be struck by a certain enigma in the air. It’s exciting, liberating, and known as Pura Vida, or Pure Life. The term is applied to everything from greetings to guiding mantras. One minute you'll be living it up in the nation’s capital – San Jose – devouring hip dining, colonial streets, and hopping gay nightlife. The next you’ll be hiking around a volcano, zip-lining in the trees, and taking a dip in a hot spring near Arenal. All this awaits on our Costa Rican escape, along with plenty of free time to explore once we reach Manuel Antonio National Park, where the beaches are vast, the monkeys plentiful, and the adventures endless.

Hola! Welcome to Costa Rica. Get acquainted with San Jose, the capital city, on a guided orientation walk. There are plenty of museums, cafes and shops to explore before we have an included Welcome Dinner at one of San Jose's most gay-welcoming restaurants. This will be followed by drinks and a night on the town.

After breakfast we’ll hit the road for La Fortuna, set beneath Arenal Volcano, where waterfalls and hot springs pepper the forests. Once there, we’ll truss up in harnesses (the functional kind) and zip-line between the treetops, where you can soak in some of the finest views of the volcano’s southern face. We’ll then head to the world-famous Tabacon Hotsprings for a blissful dip and an included dinner. Finally, we’ll head for our hotel, check-in, and rest easy.

This morning we’ll visit Tenorio National Park, famous for not only the Celeste River, but also the stunning Rio Celeste Waterfall. We’ll take a guided tour and nature walk, and perhaps enjoy a dip in the turquoise waters below the falls. Following an optional lunch, we’ll head back to our hotel. The afternoon is yours to lounge by the pool, or consider treating yourself to a blissful massage at the spa.

After breakfast and check-out from our hotel, things will get downright homey. We’ll visit a local family to whip up some muy delicioso Costa Rican cuisine under the relaxed supervision of the house cook. After we feast on our creations, we’re off to the local air strip for a short flight to Quepos, then a one-hour drive to Domincal, where the best whale watching in Costa Rica awaits. We’ll check in to our next hotel, then have the evening free to relax.

An early departure from our hotel takes us down the coast to the town of Sierpe. Breakfast is optional, then we’ll board a cozy boat for a water-licious adventure. We’ll cruise through Central America’s largest mangrove swamp, soak up some spectacular views, and seek out the local dolphin species, whales, and perhaps some sea turtles. In the midst of it all we’ll enjoy a worthwhile picnic lunch before we head back to the hotel late-afternoon and enjoy another luxurious free evening.

Wake up to a relaxing breakfast before we drive north to Manuel Antonio National Park. After we check in to our charming hotel, you can relax by the quaint pool, or make your way to the stunning beach for a lazy afternoon in the sand and sea. If you’re feeling adventurous, hike along the beach to La Playita, a small gay beach. And if you’re on our December excursion, we’re including a spectacular New Year’s Eve dinner, followed by optional dancing at the local gay club.

Today is free to explore, adventure, or simply relax (depending how late your night was). Excursions abound, from Catamaran Sailing & Snorkelling to Mangrove Kayaking and River Rafting. If you didn’t get your fill of zip-lining, you can even do that. Tonight’s optional dinner is at a restaurant renowned for their local cuisine.

Today’s fashion challenge: pair a swimsuit with hiking shoes, because our guide will take us on a guided walk through Manuel Antonio National Park. A ton of wildlife awaits, from sloths to squirrel monkeys, and over two hundred species of birds. Then you’ll have a chance to chill out at one of the beaches before an optional lunch. The rest of your afternoon and evening is yours to savour.

Following breakfast, we’ll drive back to San Jose. Explore the city at your leisure before our optional Farewell Dinner, at a fabulous restaurant where we’ll reminisce over the past nine days.

There are no activities planned today, so you are free to depart at your leisure. Safe travels!
