ITINERARY:

Mingalaba! Welcome to Myanmar – our first day is an easy one, beginning with a group meeting at 6PM, followed by dinner to get familiar with your fellow travellers.

This morning we make our way to one of Yangon’s greatest sites: the Shwedagon Pagoda and its surrounding temples. We then fly to Mandalay City for two nights. Upon arrival, we may head to Mandalay Hill for sunset, where an escalator will whisk us to the summit for a sublime view of the city (given clear skies, the views of the shrines are truly worth savouring).

Today, from the city’s lively waterfront, we’ll board a boat trip and head for Mingun, home of the world's largest (albeit unfinished) pagoda, the world’s largest unbroken bell, and centuries-old temples. Following lunch at a local monastery, we’ll return to Mandalay to visit Kuthodaw Pagoda – which claims to house the world's largest book – along with other temples. We may also savour sunset over U Bein bridge, by land or boat.

Rise and shine! We’re up early to spend the day cruising down the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) by riverboat. Sit back, relax, and watch rural fishing villages pass you by. We’ll even slumber in simple but cozy rooms on the boat.

This morning we arrive in the ancient city of Bagan. After our hotel check-in, we’ll explore the sights, and contrast Nyaung U's lively market with the eerie silence of the plains, where 4000+ structures litter the landscape (including the Gawdawpalin, Thatbyinnyu, Ananda and Shwezigon temples). Hope you haven’t grown weary of wicked sunsets, because (weather permitting) another one awaits over the city ruins.

Today you could relax, but we’d suggest the opposite! Why not visit Mount Popa, a small extinct volcano, or tour some temples by bicycle or ox cart? You could also rise extra early to savour the sunrise by hot air balloon – a quintessential Myanmar experience. Feeling less ambitious? Then walk through a local village and immerse yourself in their lifestyle.

This morning we fly to Heho in the Shan Plateau, followed by a drive through the countryside to Khaung Daing Resort on Inle Lake. Upon arrival, we’ll transfer to this waterfront hotel by traditional longtail boat, then lounge by the pool for the afternoon.

We’ll spend today on the lake, exploring floating gardens, and glimpsing the local Intha fishermen. We'll visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda and Nga Hpe Kyaung - the “Jumping Cat” Monastery, then converge for an included dinner at the hotel. Your evening is free to relax, and reflect on your adventure thus far.

Today we’ll visit a stilted village and meander between the homes and shops in dug out Indein boats. For lunch we’ll enjoy a luxurious picnic in nearby woods, prepared by some of the area’s best chefs. Then back to our hotel for some afternoon downtime and an optional dinner.

This morning we transfer back to Heho for our flight to Yangon. With a free afternoon, you could visit Sule Pagoda (at the centre of town) or the nearby Bogyoke (Scott) Market that sells an array of local goods. Tonight is our Farewell Dinner, at one of the city’s best restaurants, where we can commiserate over the highlights of our trip.

There are no activities planned today, so you are free to depart at your leisure. Safe travels!
