Our Tanzania Gay Serengeti Safari just got more wild with this four-day gorilla tour extension that immerses you in the gorilla habitats and mountains of Rwanda. The trip includes a day in the capital city of Kigali. Then we’ll venture into the Virunga Mountains to seek out these endangered gentle giants. They share 98.3% of their genetic code with humans, but only 1,000 of these great apes remain on Earth.
Please note: Gorilla Permits are the country’s most popular tourist ticket and can sell out months well in advance. We recommend booking ASAP so we can secure your spot. This tour has special booking conditions. Please click here for details.
Muraho! And welcome to Rwanda. Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport you’ll be welcomed by an Out Adventures rep, fast-tracked through immigration formalities, and transferred to our hotel for check in. The rest of your day is yours to enjoy before our official Welcome Dinner.
After breakfast we’ll check out of the hotel and commence our tour of Kigali, Rwanda’s capital. This will include a somber visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the final resting place of 250,000 people who perished in this tragic 1994 event. After lunch we’ll embark on a scenic three-hour drive through terraced hillsides to Volcanoes National park. Dinner awaits after check-in.
Please note: at the time of publishing local authorities require a face mask while visiting the gorillas and golden monkeys.
Today is devoted to the stars of this tour. We’ll track Rwanda’s famous mountain gorillas through the forested slopes of the Virungas. Beware the gorillas are sometimes elusive, so it could take anywhere from two up to six or more hours to track them down. We may spend up to an hour with these great apes before returning to the base for lunch. After returning to the lodge the rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy before our final dinner.
Please note: due to the nature of the trekking permits, 8 people are assigned to each gorilla family. Our Out Adventures group will likely be split up and hiking with other guests.
Rise and shine for an early breakfast. This morning we’ve arranged an additional trek to seek out Rwanda’s endangered golden monkeys, also known as Blue Monkeys. There are only 5,000 believed to remain in the world, and they are easily differentiated by the bright orange fur spread out over their bodies. It can take up to four hours of trekking to track down these elusive animals. After lunch we’ll check out of the lodge then drive past coffee, banana and tea plantations en route back to Kigali. From here there will be a group transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
Please do not book your departing flight any earlier than 7PM.
