Sensational Slovenia

A 5- or 7-day Tour of The Alps’ Sunny Gay Side

Always on the hunt for unorthodox destinations, this is OUT Adventures’ first foray into Slovenia! Savour the many facets of this emerging European hotspot, starting with a few chic nights in private wooden huts. We’ve also planned a leisurely afternoon and evening in Slovenian wine country, an authentic farm-to-table meal, and even a bike-ride with a picnic lunch in the nation’s biggest marsh. Our escape wraps up in Ljubljana, the nation’s capital, where you’ll even get to experience Slovenia’s gay nightlife. When booking, please choose the departure date based on your selection of a 5- or 7-day adventure! Unlike most OUT Adventures, this itinerary can be packaged as a 5, or 7-day adventure. Enjoy it on it’s own, or pair it with our Croatia Northern Adriatic Gay Cruise to save $300.

• Tour both Lake Bohinj and Lake Bled
• Try your hand at making (and tasting) authentic Slovenian cheese
• Ride an authentic local ‘pletna’ to Bled Island
• Spend a day sipping and supping in the Goriška Brda wine region
• Visit Castle Otočec, beautifully perched in the middle of a river
• Cycle through the Ljubljana Marshes, with an included picnic lunch

Zdravo – that’s hello in Slovenian! Our tour kicks off bright and early with a meeting in our centrally located Opatija hotel. Our private transfer will then bring us to the famed Postojna Caves, where nothing more than water has carved surreal ‘karstic' formations into the fusible stone, and over 5 kilometres of tunnels await. Here, we have a private tour of the caves, and Predjama Castle before we break for lunch in the caves’ namesake town. We’ll then head for Bled and check in to our ruggedly chic accommodations for some Slovenian ‘glamping'. You’ll have the afternoon to get comfortable, followed by a boat ride on Lake Bohinj and a festive Welcome Dinner. Tonight, retire to your private wooden hut for a well deserved first night of rest.

Wake up and smell the Slovenian coffee! After breakfast at the resort, we’ll depart for a private tour flaunting the best of Lake Bohinj. This will be followed by an authentic taste of local life with a private cheese-tasting experience, where you’ll also get to try making some of their local dairy delicacy yourself. For lunch we’ll take a cable-car up Vogel mountain, leaving you the afternoon free to explore the Alpine region (consider an optional canyoning or kayak/canoe/stand up paddle board excursion).

Another day, another body of water! This morning the best of Lake Bled awaits, including a guided tour of Bled Castle. This will be followed by a ride to Bled Island’s church and tower aboard a local ‘pletna' boat. After returning to land we’ll transfer to Ljubljana – the nation’s capital – and check in to our hotel. Following our private tour of the city, a funicular will whisk us up to the city’s castle for a late lunch, with an option (not included) to take the castle’s Time Machine tour which guides you through six distinct periods that have marked the history of the castle. Work off lunch with a walk through the old town, then rest up for a rich evening that begins with a bubbly-fueled boat ride on the river, and a gourmet dinner to cap off the night.

Enjoy breakfast in the hotel at your leisure, as this morning is free to explore Ljubljana on your own. This afternoon and evening is devoted to the Goriška Brda wine region. Our day includes views to admire from the lookout in Gonjače, a visit to the quaint village (and historic monument) Šmartno, and a private wine tasting with a boutique producer. Tonight, we’ll get a true taste of life in Slovenia with a Farm-to-Table dinner before we head back into the city for the night.

If you’ve booked our 5-day package, your tour ends this morning with a transfer to the airport. For those staying on, we’ll make our way to Lower Carniola, a traditional region known for its thermal spas. Try boating or stand up paddle-boarding on the Krka, then sate your appetite with lunch at Castle Otočec which sits on an island in the river. This afternoon we’ll head back to the city for an included group dinner.

After powering up on breakfast at the hotel, gear up in your sauciest bike gear for a cycling tour of the Ljubljana Marshes – the nation’s largest – where we’ll stop for a picnic lunch. We’ve left the afternoon free to sneak in any last minute sightseeing, before we gather for a Farewell Dinner. If you’re up for a last hurrah, join us at Tiffany’s, one of the local gay clubs, for an unforgettable sendoff with our local friends!

Aside from breakfast at the hotel, there are no activities planned today. Private transfers to the airport will be included, and we wish you safe travels.

Sensational Slovenia

It was a fabulous adventure! We are like kings and we participated in activities that I would probably not have booked on my own.
