Zdravo – that’s hello in Slovenian! Our tour kicks off bright and early with a meeting in our centrally located Opatija hotel. Our private transfer will then bring us to the famed Postojna Caves, where nothing more than water has carved surreal ‘karstic' formations into the fusible stone, and over 5 kilometres of tunnels await. Here, we have a private tour of the caves, and Predjama Castle before we break for an optional lunch in the caves’ namesake town. We’ll then head for Bled and check in to our ruggedly chic accommodations for some Slovenian ‘glamping'. You’ll have the afternoon to get comfortable before a relaxing Welcome Dinner. Tonight, retire to your private wooden hut for a well deserved first night of rest, enjoy your wood-burning hot tub, or join the group by the bonfire.

Wake up and smell the Slovenian coffee! We’ll skip breakfast at the resort and head to a local family farm for coffee/pastries and cheese tasting. You’ll also get to try making some of their local dairy delicacy yourself (churn baby, churn!). Then, we’ll take a stunning cable-car ride to Vogel ski resort where we’ll enjoy some goulash, and some spectacular views. After this, we head to Bohinj Lake where you have a choice ahead of you: a local electric boat tour, kayak, or stand up paddle board. Tonight’s dinner is optional, as is the communal bonfire.

Another day, another body of water! This morning the best of Lake Bled awaits, including a guided tour of Bled Castle. This will be followed by a ride to Bled Island’s church and tower aboard a local ‘pletna' boat. After returning to land we’ll transfer to Ljublana for a light lunch and a private walking tour of the city. We’ll then have some downtime at our hotel before heading to Ljubljana Castle for some insight into this medieval city, followed by dinner prepared by one of the best chefs in Slovenia. The rest of the evening is free to enjoy a local bar, or your incredibly cozy bed.

Enjoy breakfast in the hotel at your leisure, as this morning is free to explore Ljublana on your own. Early this afternoon and evening is devoted to the Goriška Brda wine region. Our day includes views to admire from the lookout in Gonjače, a visit to the quaint village (and historic monument) Šmartno, and a private wine tasting with a boutique producer. Tonight, we’ll get a true taste of life in Slovenia with a Farm-to-Table dinner before we head back into the city for the night.

After powering up on breakfast at the hotel, gear up in your sauciest bike gear for a cycling tour of the Ljublana Marshes – the nation’s largest – where we’ll stop for a picnic lunch. We’ve left the afternoon free to sneak in any last minute sightseeing, before we gather for a Farewell Dinner. If you’re up for a last hurrah, join us at Tiffany’s, one of the local gay clubs, for an unforgettable sendoff with our local friends!

Aside from breakfast at the hotel, there are no activities planned today. Private transfers to the airport will be included, and we wish you safe travels. If you’re continuing to Croatia for our 6th Annual Southern Dalmatia Gay Cruise, we’ll have a private group transfer departing this morning for Zagreb.

OUT Adventures is all about good times with likeminded guys. Whatever's on the itinerary - from fireside camping to five-star decadence - our goal is to make the experience magical. We're also committed to supporting the communities we visit by hiring local guides, staying at locally-owned accommodations when possible, and celebrating local cuisine. It's the greatest way to immerse yourself in both the experience and culture.

VISAS: A visa is not required for American, Australian, British and Canadian citizens travelling to Slovenia for fewer than 90 days. There may be exceptions, and all visas are the responsibility of the traveller.

CULTURE SHOCK: Tourism in Slovenia is well-developed enough to offer many of the luxuries of home, but not everyone you encounter will speak English. We recommend you relax, have a sense of humour, and take it easy.

LOCAL LGBT SCENE: Homosexuality was legalized in 1977 in Slovenia. While the LGBT community cannot marry, and homosexuality may still be frowned upon, common-law marriage rights have been extended to same-sex couples living together for over three years. There is also a small but growing gay scene in Ljubljana, the nation's capital.

WEATHER: Daytime highs in Slovenia are around 87F (30C) and most of the country basks in sunny splendor, save for the alpine north west (Kranjska Gora, Bled), where things cool down by 5-10 degrees (C).

REQUIRED VACCINATIONS: Based on the entry requirements for Slovenia, there are no vaccinations needed. To determine if you should take preventative measures to reduce the risk of illness, consult your doctor or a travel medical clinic. OUT Adventures cannot provide vaccination recommendations.

ELECTRICITY: You will need an international travel plug/adapter for type F sockets. Visit http://www.power-plugs-sockets.com/slovenia/ for more information.

CONNECTIVITY: You will have Wi-Fi access through the trip, so feel free to tweet, pin, post and share your experience with your friends and family at home. They might be jealous!

For everybody's peace of mind, all OUT Adventures include comprehensive travel insurance. That's up to $200 you won't have to fret about adding to your budget, unless you want to insure the value of your trip for cancellation. Here's what's covered:

  • Unlimited Trip Interruption
  • Up to $50,000 Emergency Medical plus up to $300,000 for ambulance transportation, up to $5,000,000 CAD with valid GHIP coverage.
  • Baggage Loss or Damage up to $1,500
  • Baggage Delay up to $500
  • Flight Accident up to $100,000
  • Travel Accident up to $50,000

All OUT Adventures are led by a gay (or gay-welcoming) guide. Whenever possible, we hire destination locals. And we can also connect you with the right people if you'd like to delve deeper into the local culture. If you're pleased with their services, we recommend a tip of $5-10 US, per person, per day...they'll definitely appreciate the gesture.

OUT Adventures are a great way to meet people from around the world and all walks of life. Bear in mind that everybody's on the tour for a good time, so mutual respect will go a long way. Please be on time for any meet-ups, empathetic to the needs of others, and ready to roll with whatever the adventure brings.

Although we can't tell you who your fellow travellers are for privacy reasons, we can assure you many great friendships began on an OUT Adventure. And just because we're gay doesn't mean we're exclusive: friends and family are always welcome to join the fun.

If you've never travelled on your own, it's an amazing way to learn about yourself while making friends along the way. We can set you up to share a room with someone around your age, or you can pay a supplement if you'd rather some space and privacy. If there's an odd number of solos, we'll rotate single rooms on a random basis.

The itinerary is correct at time of publishing. If anything, it will only improve with feedback from travellers and our own experience, so it's best to reference your final trip documents (rather than our website) to confirm if any changes have affected your departure.

Every OUT Adventure offers optional excursions that are not included in the trip price. Please see the daily itinerary in your final pre-trip packet to see what's available.

To keep things simplemost meals are included in the cost of this trip, at a variety of local and upscale restaurants, always with a focus on unique and authentic Slovenian cuisine.

Complimentary arrival and departure transfers will be provided to/from Ljubljana International Airport, assuming you are transferring to/from a hotel that has been booked through OUT Adventures.

If you are continuing on our Southern Dalmatia Gay Cruise, you'll have the option to join a group transfer to Zagreb on July 20th for a fee of $100 USD.

If you are happy with services throughout your trip, a tip is recommended. Tipping details will be provided in your final trip documentation, but we recommend budgeting about $75-$100 USD.

The local currency is the Euro. We recommend carrying some for small purchases, although credit cards are accepted at hotels and most restaurants. We also recommend carrying about $400 USD in case of an emergency, or if your credit/ATM cards are placed on hold.

Most OUT Adventures entail carrying your own luggage on occasion. And while you'll never schlep far, things can quickly get costlier than a celebrity breakup if you don't keep your baggage under 20kg/44lb thanks to costly surcharges on domestic flights. You should also bring something smaller for day trips to carry water, your camera, and any souvenirs you find along the way.

The following packing list is a guideline, not gospel. Our OUT Adventure Specialists are happy to answer any specific questions about how much or little to bring.

We love when groups of friends join us on an OUT Adventure, whether you're celebrating a major milestone, or you just love to travel together. However, since we have travellers that will be flying solo, or as a couple, we would love your help ensuring everybody feels welcome and has an epic time. Here are some ways you can give us a hand, while also getting to know and befriending your fellow travellers:

  • Sit with (and get to know) different people at different meals
  • Mix up walking partners on excursions
  • Invite solo travellers to join you for an optional excursion or meal
  • Enjoy inside jokes in privacy, or let the group in on the secret ;)

If you'd rather relish an exclusive escape with just your own party, we also offer private departures. This is a great way to create and manage your own holiday guest list, while possibly saving money as well. Please contact one of our Adventure Specialists if you're interested in a customized quote.
