The health and safety of our guests is our top priority and we pride ourselves on making decisions that are pragmatic, and place priority on purpose before profit. In order to do so, it’s important to understand and present the facts, and make decisions accordingly. While this blog post is accurate at the time of publishing, the below statistics and policies may change. Our dedicated team is working around the clock with the best interests of our clients in mind.
What are Coronavirus and COVID-19?
Novel COVID-19 is a member of the coronavirus family. The virus has a wide range of effects. Those infected experience everything from flu-like symptoms to serious issues like Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
How is coronavirus spread?
Until recently, the virus was never identified in humans. Initial infections occurred animal-to-human, the disease is now spreading from human-to-human. COVID-19 is highly transmissible and – more concerningly – contagious many days before infected individuals develop symptoms.
Coronavirus & Travel
What countries have been affected by coronavirus?
The coronavirus situation is changing daily and Out Adventures is keeping a very close eye on it. As of publication of this article, coronavirus has been identified on every continent except Antarctica. The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention maintains an up-to-date list of countries that have been affected.
How do I protect myself from coronavirus while travelling?
The best way to protect yourself is with excellent hand hygiene. Wash your hands regularly, use hand sanitizer often and cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze (aiming into your elbow). Avoid touching your face and eyes. Wear a mask in public if you’re coughing or sneezing, and avoid public spaces and transit. Finally, only eat well-cooked meat and eggs.
Where should I avoid travelling?
This is entirely a personal decision, but we recommend following the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention’s travel warnings.
Coronavirus & Out Adventures
Is Out Adventures cancelling any scheduled group departures because of coronavirus?
At this point, most heads of state have recommended everyone avoid all non-essential travel to help isolate the spread of coronavirus.
Given both our mission to prioritize our customer’s safety and do our part to mitigate the spread of coronavirus,we are cancelling all tours that depart before June 15, 2020. At present, all tours departing AFTER June 15, 2020 are running as planned.
The coronavirus situation continues to change and evolve. As does the response of governments and health officials. At this point, it is impossible to predict which tours will or won’t be affected. Our promise is to stay transparent through this unprecedented situation.
If an Out Adventures tour I’ve booked is cancelled, will I get a refund?
If Out Adventures cancels a tour you are booked on, you have the choice of receiving a 100% credit toward future travel with us or, you choose a refund, less unrecoverable costs.
Please note, to best serve the needs of our customers during coronavirus, we have implemented temporary new Booking Conditions. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the new set of Booking Conditions.
I feel uneasy about travelling right now. Can I cancel my Out Adventures booking without penalty?
As stated, we have updated our Booking Conditions to better serve our customers during coronavirus. While we strive to be as flexible as possible, there still may be fees to cancelling your tour.
If you decide to cancel your booking, we will refund all or some of your payments:
- up to 60 days before departure, we will hold 100% of your payment as a credit for future travel. If you require a refund, we will retain your deposit.
- up to 30 days before departure, we will hold 100% of your payment as a credit for future travel, or provide a 50% refund.
- between 15 and 29 days before departure, we will hold 75% of your payment as a credit for future travel, with no option for refund.
- under 14 days, we will retain the full amount of your booking as a cancellation fee.
A cancellation will only be effective when we receive written/emailed confirmation of the cancellation.
Different fees may apply to Polar trips, cruises, airline tickets, or for custom and tailor-made itineraries, as set out in any Special Conditions and/ or the Important Trip Information relating to your trip.
Can I still get travel insurance if I book with Out Adventures?
We require that all travellers have travel insurance to cover medical and emergency repatriation. However, now that COVID-19 is publicly known, most insurance companies are refusing to cover protection from coronavirus on future travel. It is important that you ask travel insurance providers about their policies surrounding coronavirus. We also recommend buying a policy with change of mind/cancel for any reason coverage, if available in your province/state. You must contact your own provider for individual policy questions.
I have a specific question. How can I contact you?
