Argentina Gay Travel

Buenos Aires alone makes Argentina a must-visit destination for gay travellers. Never mind picture-perfect Patagonia or striking Iguazú Falls.

Evita’s homeland is the world’s largest Spanish-speaking nation. At 2,780,400 km2 (1,073,500 mi2), it’s also the second-largest country in South America. Given this size, Argentina covers an array of climate zones. It even claims some South Atlantic islands and part of Antarctica as its own. The nation is home to notable wine regions like Mendoza and La Rioja, along with the vivacious city of Buenos Aires. Argentine Patagonia, where we visit on our Argentina Gay Tours, is famous for arid steppes, grasslands and deserts, while Chilean Patagonia – on the other side of the Andes Mountains – is known for glacial fjords and temperate rainforest.

More Info

Argentina leads Latin America’s march for gay rights. In 2010 they became the first in the region to legalize gay marriage, and are global leaders in transgender rights (you can change your identity without hormone therapy, surgery, or psychiatric diagnosis). Same-sex couples can adopt, and gay people can serve in the military. Best of all, there’s massive acceptance of homosexuality, with almost ¾ of society affirming it’s okay to be gay.

Buenos Aires is Latin America’s gay capital, with raucous nightlife and the biggest pride celebration on the continent. Rosario and Mendoza are two other cities with lively gay scenes. Finally in Patagonia, where we travel, you can find gay-friendly hotels and bars in many towns. Puerto Madryn is especially noted for its gay but low-key appeal.

3. Iguazú Falls

1. Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is not only the gay capital of Argentina, but rather South America. Its accepting nature is almost as famous as its elegant architecture and grand boulevards.

Best Time to Visit: Our trips through Patagonia happen in January, which is the middle of summer, and a great time out in the wild. If you’re heading to Buenos Aires, it’s worth visiting from September through December. This marks spring in the city, and is a chance to watch the metropolis emerge from hibernation. Finally, July is the best month for skiing.

Covid-19 Vaccination Requirements: We’re dedicated to ensuring our tours are safe for everyone, but it is our belief that each traveler has a responsibility to protect themselves and their fellow travellers from COVID-19. As of May 1, 2023, Out Adventures no longer requires guests to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination on most of our tours. If vaccination is a requirement for entry, or on select cruises, this will be communicated at the time a trip is confirmed to depart. Before booking, we recommend that you read our COVID-19 Information Page and our COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions to understand what we’re doing to minimize risk, and what will happen if you contract COVID-19 before or during an Out Adventures tour.

Other Vaccinations: The WHO suggests immunization against typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, yellow fever, rabies, and influenza before visiting Argentina. To determine if you should take preventative measures to reduce the risk of illness, consult with your doctor or a travel medical clinic.

It was such a great experience! Loved the small group.

Argentina: Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls & Mendoza
Rating:

My husband and I did the Argentina tour in October 2022. It was such a great experience! Loved the small group – 7 of us. Really got to know everyone. Great guides too – Tomas and Alf! Of course we love Buenos Aires! The rainbow hills/mountains were spectacular. The train ride to the clouds was a great experience. Riding bikes in Mendoza to the wineries – the scenery with the snow covered mountains in the background and vineyards in the foreground – stunning! Looking forward to our next trip in 2023 with Out Adventures!
